The code of an HTD timing belt indicates the length, pitch of the teeth, and width of the belt.

Taking 365-5M-15 as an example:

  • 365: belt length in millimeters.
  • 5M: tooth pitch of 5 mm, with HTD profile.
  • 15: belt width in millimeters.

To calculate the number of teeth, simply divide the length by the pitch: 365 ÷ 5 = 73 teeth.

  • T (T2.5, T5, T10): have trapezoidal teeth and a metric pitch. They are widely used in handling and positioning applications.

What are the Gates Poly Chain Carbon belts and when are they used?

The Gates Poly Chain Carbon are polyurethane toothed belts with carbon fiber tensile cords, designed to transmit very high torque.

Compared to chains, they offer several advantages:

  • No lubrication is required.
  • They have a very low elongation during operation.
  • They allow the creation of drives suitable for high loads.

Caution: the Gates Poly Chain Carbon require pulleys with a dedicated profile and are not directly interchangeable with standard HTD toothed belts.
