This device operates on the same principle as a friction limiter but uses small balls or rollers as transmission elements, eliminating sliding surfaces. The elements are held in place by spring preload.
When the set torque is exceeded, the balls or rollers pop out of their respective seats, causing an axial movement of a part of the device. This displacement, if detected by a proximity sensor, can be used to signal a malfunction.
