This device adopts the same principle as the friction limiter but uses small balls or rollers as transmission elements, eliminating sliding surfaces. The elements are kept in place by the preload of a spring.

When the set torque is exceeded, the balls or rollers exit their respective seats, causing an axial movement of a part of the device. This displacement, when detected by a proximity sensor, can be used to signal a malfunction.

Due to the absence of sliding friction, ball/roller torque limiters are particularly suitable for wet environments or those with oil presence, ensuring reliability and longevity.
