Trapezoidal screws are manufactured through turning or rolling, depending on the application requirements. The trapezoidal profile conforms to the UNI 2903 (DIN 103) standards.
The movement of the nut on the screw occurs through sliding, which is why these screws are not suitable for use at high rotational speeds. Thanks to the particular profile, TPN screws can be considered practically irreversible, a characteristic useful in many applications.
The screw-nut system finds numerous applications, particularly when axial displacement is required. The use of screws and nuts with multiple principles allows for the doubling or tripling of the axial displacement per turn, thereby increasing the translation speed of the system.
Important note on lubrication:
To ensure proper functioning and reduce wear on the screw/nut system, it is essential to always maintain a clean lubricant layer between the contact surfaces.
The trapezoidal screw and the ball screw are both used to convert rotary motion into linear motion, but they operate differently.
The trapezoidal screw is often suited for simple movements and applications where cost is a significant factor. The ball screw is preferable when greater precision, efficiency, and speed of movement are required.
Note: the potential irreversibility of a trapezoidal screw depends on the characteristics of the system and should not automatically be considered a safety device for load retention.
