Joints and False Links for Industrial Chains
Transmission chains are typically supplied with free terminals. To properly connect these terminals, joints are used, available in various types depending on assembly requirements and strength.
Spring clip joints and safety pin joints allow for quick assembly and disassembly, making them ideal for frequent maintenance interventions. In contrast, the rivet joint ensures an extremely robust and permanent connection, but must be made in the factory or with specific equipment.
When the pitch number of an open chain is odd, a filler link must be used. This component consists of two special plates fixed with a pin and a roller; the wider part of the link is mounted at the end of the chain and locked with a safety pin.
It is important to pay particular attention to the use of filler links or spring clip or safety pin joints, as they can significantly reduce the break load of the chain and, consequently, its operational reliability.
