Below is a quick guide for installation; all operations can be performed from the keyboard, but the use of the INVT Studio program is always recommended.

All configurations described in this article refer to a default inverter condition.

As a first operation, set all the inverter parameters to default, set P00.18=1

Motor Autotuning

After connecting all components: filter, motor, braking resistor, by connecting the inverter to the grid, we must first set the motor parameters. There are 2 autotuning procedures: dynamic to be performed with the motor decoupled from the load, static to be performed with the motor coupled to the load. If possible, it is preferable to carry out the dynamic procedure.

  • Define motor parameters: Power P02.01, Rated Frequency P02.02, Rotation Speed P02.03, Voltage P02.04, Current P02.05. All other parameters are automatically calculated by the autotuning procedure.
  • Enable keyboard controls P00.01=0. This activates the inverter's keyboard.
  • Enable autotuning P00.15.
    0: No operation
    1: Complete dynamic autotune of motor parameters. Recommended when high control accuracy is needed and the motor can be physically separated from the load.
    2: Complete static autotune of motor parameters. To be used when the motor cannot be separated from the load.
    3: Partial static autotuning of motor parameters. Tuning only parameters P02.06, P02.07, P02.08
  • When autotuning is activated, the display will show the blinking text -run-; by pressing the [RUN] command, the procedure will be executed (If the dynamic procedure was chosen, the motor will start rotating) and a progressive number will appear on the display after the text -run-x. Once the procedure is completed, the inverter will stop.

Calibration of Motor Thermal Protection Collapse

P02.27: This is a value (K) in percentage that allows setting the alarm response time for thermal trip. It is calculated using the formula:

K=[(LOut/Lm)/M]*100

K: Calculated value to be set in P02.27
M: Constant for overload time calculation (Refer to the graph in the manual, 60 Min=116, 12 Min=150, 5 Min=180, 1 Min=200)
LOut: Rated output current of the Inverter (A)
Lm: Rated motor current (A)

Example: GD20 2.2 Kw  5.5A and motor 1.5kW 4A
LOut=5.5A; Ln=4A

If we desire intervention after 5 minutes -> K=[(5.5/4)/180]*10000 -> 76.38 -> Set 76
If we want intervention after 1 minute -> K=[(5.5/4)/200]*10000 ->68.75 -> Set 68

Control via Modbus

To manage the inverter with SlimLine systems using the function block InvtGD20EU, the following steps are required:

  • Set the Modbus address as defined in the FB, P14.00=xxx.
  • Set communication parameters as defined in the program, P14.01=x, P14.02=x.
  • Set control from serial communication (LED LOCALREMOT on the keypad is lit), P00.01=2.
  • Select frequency command A with Modbus settings P00.06=8.
  • Select frequency command A as the speed source P00.09=0.

Common Configurations

By appropriately configuring the various parameters of the inverter, it is possible to achieve numerous operational configurations; below we list the most common configurations.

3-Wire Control with External Potentiometer Speed Expand
Three digital inputs are used for motor control from buttons: S1 (no) forward rotation command, S2 (no) backward rotation, S3 (nc) stop; the rotation speed is adjustable via a potentiometer on input AI2. To configure this operating mode, the following steps must be taken:

  • Enable control from digital inputs, P00.01=1.
  • Enable forward rotation command from input S1, P05.01=1.
  • Enable backward rotation command from input S2, P05.02=2.
  • Enable multi-step speed selection 1 from input S3, P05.03=3.
  • Select frequency command A from input AI2 P00.06=2.
  • Select frequency command A as the speed source P00.09=0.
  • Select control mode from 3-wire inputs P05.13=3.

Control from Digital Inputs with Step+ and Step- Motor Speed Inputs Expand
Four digital inputs are used for control: S1 (no) forward rotation command, S2 (no) backward rotation, S3 (no) step+ speed, S4 (no) step- speed.

  • Enable control from digital inputs, P00.01=1.
  • Enable forward rotation command from input S1, P05.01=1.
  • Enable backward rotation command from input S2, P05.02=2.
  • Enable frequency setting from the keyboard P00.06=0. Set starting frequency on rotation commands, P00.10.
  • Enable frequency increment command (Step+) from input S3, P05.03=10. Set variation coefficient, P08.45.
  • Enable frequency decrement command (Step-) from input S4, P05.04=11. Set variation coefficient, P08.46.
  • If you wish to define a frequency variation range, set minimum P00.05 and maximum P00.03.

Rotation Command from Digital Inputs with Multi-step Speed Expand
In this operating mode, it is possible to control clockwise/counterclockwise rotation via 4 digital inputs with the possibility of 4 different speeds (Selectable by the combination of inputs S3/S4). To configure this operating mode, the following steps must be taken:

  • Enable control from digital inputs, P00.01=1.
  • Enable forward rotation command from input S1, P05.01=1.
  • Enable backward rotation command from input S2, P05.02=2.
  • Enable multi-step speed selection 1 from input S3, P05.03=16.
  • Enable multi-step speed selection 2 from input S4, P05.04=17.
  • Select frequency command A with multi-step speed P00.06=6.
  • Select frequency command A as the speed source P00.09=0.
  • Set the 4 multi-step speeds: 0 (S3=Off, S4=Off) P10.02, 1 (S3=On, S4=Off) P10.04, 2 (S3=Off, S4=On) P10.06, 3 (S3=On, S4=On) P10.08. The set values indicate the percentage speed relative to the maximum output frequency P00.03.

Manual or Automatic Control with Sensor Feedback
In this operating mode, control of a pump is performed; via a digital input, it is possible to select 2 operational modes:

Manual, the rotation speed is defined by the potentiometer on the keypad.
Automatic with Sensor Feedback, the potentiometer on the keypad sets the flow set point which is fed back by a pressure meter.

  • Set speed control in V/F, P00.00=0.
  • Enable control from digital inputs, P00.01=1.
  • Enable PID (Control A), P00.06=7.
  • Select PID feedback input, P09.02=1 (1: Analog input AI2).
  • Select PID control set point (Control A), P09.00=1 (1: Potentiometer on keypad AI1).
  • Select speed setting (Control B), P00.07=1 (1: Potentiometer on keypad AI1).
  • Enable forward rotation command from input S1, P05.01=1.
  • Enable switching between controls A and B from input S2, P05.02=13.
