How to Measure a Trapezoidal Belt

The pitch of a trapezoidal belt can be expressed in millimeters or inches, which is why we have divided the products on our site into two specific categories: metric trapezoidal belts and inch trapezoidal belts.
For inch trapezoidal belts, whether smooth or notched, the measurements indicated on the back of the belt relate to the internal pitch expressed in inches, while for metric trapezoidal belts (with SP prefix), the measurements relate to the primitive pitch expressed in millimeters.

To know how long a belt is, simply manually measure the OUTER LENGTH, taking the measurement in millimeters, and then calculate the inner length or primitive length based on the information from the tables below.
It should be noted that for classic trapezoidal belts, the internal development is indicated as the standard reference, while for narrow trapezoidal belts, prefixed with SP, the primitive development is usually indicated.

After measuring the outer length (base), which is usually the easiest and quickest to obtain, it is sufficient to subtract the values indicated in the table from the measured value in millimeters to get the actual development.
Generally, for classic trapezoidal belts, the inch is used as the unit of measurement, but to facilitate calculations, we preferred to indicate all measurements also in millimeters.
